A young family enjoying the simple pleasures of roasted corn

Coming out to Avila Valley Barn is a perfect outing for the whole family. In addition to the variety of treats than range from fresh-roasted, butter-dripping corn on the cob to homemade ice cream, visiting our farm pets to choosing the perfect pie for dessert, we also have free hay rides on weekends to our u-pick fields and orchards for you to enjoy. Children of "all ages" have so much fun jumping on board our wagons and heading out for an adventure of discovery and simple fun. There's nothing more pleasurable than picking plump, juicy, sweet fruit right from the vines, or plucking that perfect apple, peach, or nectarine from a tree. And, the sight of a pumpkin patch just waiting to be discovered is one that your children will talk about long after the "best one" has been taken home and carved for Halloween.

We also schedule school field trips during the week. It's a great way to educate children about a working farm. Most children today don't get to enjoy and learn about the hands-on experience of growing and picking fruit and vegetables. We think that knowing where and how fruits and vegetables are raised, gives children a greater appreciation of the environment and of what they eat. It's just something that can't be taught by going to the grocery store. Call us if you'd like to schedule a school field trip and we'd be happy to plan for your arrival. The trip includes a hay ride to the pumpkin patch, picking of one 8-inch sugar pumpkin, one mini pumpkin, and an apple for a snack. The cost is $3.50 per student. We take reservations for our October field trips starting on June 1st each year. Our trip list fills up fast so be sure to put in your reservation as soon as possible.
Our u-pick process is very simple. Our berries are in long rows and tied up and their are no thorns to deal with. It's a real treat to discover and choose each juicy, ripe berry, and we give you your own basket to fill to your heart's content. The orchards and fields also have easy-pick access, and you can stay as long as you like. Our wagons make regular trips to and from the barn so you won't have a long wait once your bounty has been gathered.

As each variety of fruits and vegetables come into season, every trip you make here will reward you with different delights. Every month we have something new to for you to pick. In May and June we have our signature ollalieberries, in July there are beautiful, rosey-colored peaches and nectarines, in August and September varieties of apples are ripening, and October is filled with pumpkins. We also grow apricots, corn, onions, beans, summer squash, and tomatoes.
